Antique Late Victorian period Lovely Quality and Very stylish take on a table Cigar Box come Humidor in Solid Copper fully fitted to the interior with cedar wood, the box lid and side walls including front and back are beautifully detailed with a three dimensional pictorial featuring Putti frolicking within a static frame of stylised floral pillars, each of the putti figures entwining scrolled foliage throughout the pillars and around themselves creating an Edenic scene.
The Box lid is pin hinged to the sides and when opened reveals the box interior which is panel set to the floor, side walls and inside lid which is also riveted with copper sunflowers in cedar wood, cedar historically having been used in humidors due to its natural aroma, moisture regulation capabilities, insect-repelling properties, resistance to mould and fungus, and of course durability durability.
The box is in well preserved condition, has a a lovely patination to the copper and is without damage, the cedar lining to the interior although aged is still perfectly intact, when closed shut it measures 16 cm x 9.5 cm x 8.5 cm in dimension or 6.3 x 3.7 x 3.3 inches.
Makes for a fabulous collectible piece that will serve well as originally intended or indeed could be used for a variety of other uses, perhaps refitted in velvet so as to serve as a jewel casket or otherwise.
